Chloe is Six Months Old

The Outakes

Weight/Size: Nana brought you to your 6 month check up at the doctors and you weighed in at 15lbs and 12 ounces (putting you in the 10-25 percentile). You are now 27" long (putting you in the 75-90 percentile). According to statistics, you are long and skinny! You have a head circumference of 16 1/2".

Sleep: You sleep great through the night, unless you have a cold. You still fall asleep in your swing and we transfer you to your crib when we go to bed. You usually sleep until 8am or so. I am so grateful that you are a good night-time sleeper.

Movement: You jump in your 'Jenny Jump' now and you get really excited when Callie runs by you.  You can reach all of the toys in your play saucer and you stay entertained in it for long periods of time. You can now roll from you belly to your back and from your back to your belly. You are usually on your tummy in your crib when we wake up in the mornings. You are very close to being on the move. You push yourself up and extend your arms like you are going to crawl. You reach for toys that are out of reach and hold your own bottle almost flawlessly. It's time for mommy and daddy to start baby-proofing the house before you become to independent. I love watching you attempt to pet Callie and Sebastian, but instead you smack them and pull their ears out of excitement. Callie is very patient with you and loves when you try to pet her. She always licks you! But mostly, I love it when you grab my face when I'm holding you.

Communication: You smile all the time now and it still melts my heart every time. You laugh every now and then, mostly at the dogs though. You hardly ever cry anymore. You only cry when you're hungry or overly tired. You are so much fun to play with now because you interact with us. You talk to us and squeal loudly. You smack your lips and your tongue all the time. You also respond to your name now.

Food: We spoil you with rice cereal for breakfast and daddy's homemade baby food for lunch! You love to chow down on sweet potatoes, bananas, squash, and green beans. You hate green peas and we think you have an allergy to carrots. You still drink a few 6-8 ounce bottles through out the day too.  You loved trying watermelon and cantaloupe. Mommy and daddy aren't afraid to get messy so we let you hold your own food sometimes.

Mood: You are hyper and happy when we are at home and you are calm and relaxed when we are out and about in your car seat. It's cute when you act shy when you are surrounded by other people. You don't get that from mommy's side of the family.

Medicine: You get Tylenol when you get sick. You've been sick three times already in your short little life. I hope you didn't catch mommy's immune system!

Sweet Remembrances:
  1. We celebrated your first Thanksgiving, making our rounds to three different houses
  2. We celebrated your first Hannukah and you got to open a present (or 2 or 3...) a day for all eight days
  3. You helped mommy and daddy put the tinsel on the Christmas tree
Likes: petting animals, especially dogs, going for a walk/run in your jogging stroller, seeing yourself in the mirror, watching the dogs play, opening presents and eating the wrapping paper, being outside, watching baby Einstein DVDs

Dislikes: going to sleep, pacifiers, coughing

Chloe is Five Months Old

Mommy was bad and did not get to the beach this month to take your 5 month picture.....

Weight/size: We didn't weigh you since you didn't have a doctors appointment this month but it seems liked you have gained a pound or two. You are now wearing size 2 diapers and you probably will outgrow these pretty quickly. You are still wearing 3-6 month clothes. And now that it's winter, you can fit in to all of your cute summer sandles....

Sleep: You have been waking up during the night lately. It may be because you are going through a little growth spurt, or because you haven't been feeling well.

Movement: You are fully functioning in your play saucer now and you can do a 360 when laying on your tummy. You act like you want to crawl and run, then get mad when you can't. Every morning in your crib you are turned almost completely around with your head where your feet were. You also love to sleep on your side now, and can almost roll from your back to your belly.

Communication: If we smile and say" Mama" or "Dada" to you, you always smile. You now scream for attention and are very talkative when you are in your play saucer or swing. But when other people are around, you are very quiet and shy.

Food: At the end of 4 months, we started giving you rice cereal for breakfast, and baby food at lunchtime. You are still downing formula every few hours.

Mood: Every month you change so much. You have been smiling so much now and even started laughing more and more. You were sick for a lot of this month but you still smiled all the time.

Medicine: You had a bad head cold, so we gave you Tylenol and saline drops.

Sweet Rememberances:
  1. You had your first zoo trip on Nana's birthday
  2. You laughed hard at Callie playing with her toy
  3. You had your first Halloween, although we didn't do much to celebrate this year
Likes: Playing in your excer-saucer, car rides

Dislikes: Greenpeas, having your face wiped off while eating

Chloe is Four Months Old

Weight/Size: You weighed in at 13.4 lbs at your 4 month doctor appointment. You were 24 1/2" long and your head was 15 3/4" in circumference. You are still wearing size 1 diapers, but those chubby thighs are about to pop out of them. It's time to put you in size 2! All of your newborn clothes are packed up and you are wearing mostly 3-6 month clothes now. So big, so quick!

Sleep: You are still a sound sleep at night, hardly ever waking up in the middle of the night. You don't take long naps during the day though. Only 30 minutes, here or there. We are slowly trying to put you in your crib for your naps, but so far it hasn't gone over well.

Movement: You love to stand up. You also love to grab your toys and bring them to your mouth. You kick your feet fast when you are excited and you grab your bottle and try to hold it by yourself. You still hate being placed on your tummy. You roll over from your tummy to your back the second we put you on it.

Communication: You finally found your voice! You like to make lots of sounds now. You coo and blow bubbles all the time. You sound like a little seal :) You smile a lot now, especially first thing in the morning.

Food: My little piggy! You eat 6 ounces every 2-4 hours. We give you stage 1 Gerber baby food every once in a while too. You love apple and pears! We are also starting to add rice cereal to your formula at night.

Mood: Overall, you are a happy baby. But you are definitely a serious baby most of the time. You seem to just take everything in and stare at everything and everyone quietly.

Medicine: No medicine this month, other than your 4 month shots.

Sweet Remembrances:
  1. You laughed for the first time!! I will never forget it. Daddy was in the pool splashing and making faces and you and I were hanging out by the edge of the pool. You just started cracking up laughing for a few minutes. I couldn't believe that laugh came out of such a tiny person. Daddy and I almost cried, we were so happy. It was the best experience as parents!
  2. Daddy took you to your 4 month doctor appointment
  3. You had your first full day with just daddy while mommy went to work

Likes: playing in the wet sand at the beach, floating in the pool. standing on our laps, your little monkey and poo bear stuffed animals

Dislikes: belly time!

Chloe is Three Months Old

You weren't interested in taking pictures today....

Weight/Size: Since you didn't have a doctors appointment this month, I weighed you on a different scale, but it says you are 12lbs! You are still wearing size 1 diapers but I have packed away most of your newborn clothes. You are wearing mostly 3 month outfits, and a handful of 0-3 month outfits. I can believe how fast you are growing!

Sleep: You have made me one happy mommy! You've been sleeping through the night now for a couple weeks. You usually fall asleep in your swing around 8:30 and we transfer you to your crib around 10 or 11. You don't wake up until 7am or even 8am some days!

Movement: You have discovered your hands and feet this month. You always have your hands in your mouth and you seem to be mesmerized by them. You lift your butt off the ground and scoot to the end of your swing and carseat. You still hate tummy time but you love laying on your back under your play mat. You bat at your toys and kick your legs when you are excited. You are starting to smile more and more every day. Your new favorite thing is standing up on our laps.

Communication: You are a pretty quiet baby, but you coo and grunt when you get really excited. You haven't laughed yet, but I can tell it's coming soon. You let us know when you like something and make it loud and clear when you don't.

Food: You are a little piglet! :) Through trial and error, we realized you were not getting enough milk through nursing so we started to supplement with formula. I no longer produce any milk so you are 100% on formula now. You eat 6 ounces about every 2 to 3 hours.

Mood: Since we started you on formula, you have become the happiest baby. I wish I would have known you were just hungry the last few weeks. I feel guilty for not knowing you weren't getting enough to eat, but I am relieved that you are not colic! You are smiling and interacting with us all the time now.

Medicine: We no longer give you your multi-vitamin since beginning you on formula (thank goodness!, that stuff was nasty!). We only give you tummy drops a couple times a week now.

Sweet Rememberances:
  1. You were spoon fed for the first time and loved it! You had pears and screamed for more.
  2. Nana took us to get your ears pierced and we chose pearls for your pretty little ears
Likes: standing up on our laps, staring at ANY ceiling fan, laying on your changing pad, laying on your play mat, swimming in the pool, constant movement

Dislikes: tummy time, being burped

Chloe is Two Months Old

The sun was in your eyes... next month we will take your picture later in the day...mommy is learning.

Weight/Size: You weighed 10lbs. 4oz. at your 2 month doctor appointment. You were 22" long and perfect. You are wearing size 1 diapers and both newborn and 0-3 month size clothes. Most of your newborn sleepers are too small on you now.

Sleep: You usually lay down in your crib around midnight and sleep until 5 or 6 in the morning. Some nights we aren't so lucky. We are trying to get you to sleep a little earlier now, but so far you aren't having it!

Movement: You always flip over on the boppy pillow from your tummy to your back. You are beginning to try to roll over both from your tummy to your back and from your back to your tummy when your laying down. You get frustrated most of the time but I know you will get it soon! You haven't stopped kicking those legs and you are lifting your head up all the time.

Communication: You are beginning to make more and more noise. You are starting to grunt and talk to us when you get excited. I love hearing your cute little voice! I can't wait to hear you giggle! You smiled intentionally for the first time yesterday and I will never forget it!

Food: You nurse just about every 3 hours, depending on the day.

Mood: You are going through a crying spurt. Nothing seems to make you happy these days. We are starting to think you may be colic. When you cry, I want to cry. I hope this doesn't last long.

Medicine: Nothing has changed since you were 1 month old, but we are trying to ween you off of the tummy drops. You got your first set of shots at your doctor appointment.

Sweet Remembrances

  1. 1. Our first family vacation to the Florida Keys. You were one month old and already enjoying Key West!
  2. 2. You had your first dip in the Ocean at the beach, followed by about 2 beach trips a week.
  3. 3. You smiled intentionally for the first time :-)
Likes: Being outside, looking outside, staring at the ceiling fan, laying on changing pad, taking a bath, swimming in the pool, going to the beach

Dislikes: laying on the bobby pillow, your pacifier, being held while sitting down

Chloe is One Month Old

Weight/size: You weighed 7lbs 12oz at your one month doctor appointment. You are wearing newborn size diapers and newborn clothes. Some of your newborn clothes are still too big!

Sleep: You sleep most of the day, but you really love to fall asleep in someone’s arms. You refuse to lay in your crib until midnight every night. You fall asleep every time we go for a car ride.

Movement: You are a very active baby, which doesn’t surprise me since you were always  kicking and moving in my stomach! You have been lifting your head up since day one. Sometimes your hands and feet get out of control and we have to swaddle you to settle you down. You move yourself from your stomach to your back when we set you on your boppy pillow.

Communication: You don’t make too much noise, unless you are crying. You have the saddest little cry that goes along with the cutest frown. Your daddy is going to have a tough time saying no to you in the future! You stomp your feet when you are angry or gassy. I can’t believe how much attitude you already have!

Food: You nursed every 3 hours for the first 2 or 3 weeks, and then you went on a growth spurt and wanted to eat at random times closer together. You wore mommy out! You love nursing but you will also chug an entire bottle in less than 2 minutes! I can’t wait to see those chubby cheeks grow!

Mood: You are a very alert baby. When you are awake you just stare at everything and everyone. You always seem so content. But when you have a tummy ache, you are not a happy baby. You scream and cry until it passes. I can’t wait until you start smiling!

Medicine: We give you mylicon drops every feeding since you are having problems with your tummy. You love the taste of these drops and stop crying almost immediately after we give them to you. You get eye drops in your right eye because your tear ducts are too small and your eye gets crusty. You also get a multi-vitamin with Iron, which you hate the taste of.

Sweet remembrances:
  1. Daddy put your first diaper on at the hospital
  2. We brought you home from the hospital on Father's Day
  3. Daddy and Nana gave you your first bath
  4. You had your Hebrew baby naming on July 7th

Likes: Being swaddled, laying chest to chest, being held upright, laying on your tummy, all music, vibrations, taking a warm bath, swinging in your baby swing

Dislikes: Dislikes: being gassy, when your pacifier falls out, being strapped into your car seat

Mommy’s mental health: The first night we brought you home from the hospital, I was set on putting you in your crib in your own room to sleep. I did not know how hard that was going to be for me. You had no problem sleeping in your crib but mommy had a mental breakdown. I was so scared to leave your side. I’ve never felt a love so strong. I cried all night because I didn’t want anything to happen to you. I apologize in advance if I am over protective, but you will understand one day when you become a mother. You look so much like your daddy. I can stare at you all day. I feel so blessed that you were given to me.
